Klaxons – Echoes
aaamusic | On 16, Aug 2010
With ‘Echoes’ of a sound that just a few years ago propelled them to a position worthy of adolescent veneration, Klaxons are back with their distinct brand of danceable Indie rock. Yet after 3 years and one scrapped album their new single does more than reverberate sounds of a new rave genre that never quite was; it shows a real progression towards an altogether more mature and focused sound.
Although not too many risks have been taken with the direction of this single as it retains a sound that is synonymous with the band, the track does however show a greater level of control than we may have anticipated from their previous efforts. In particular, the bridge to the final chorus shows far more restraint than many of their previous tracks and successfully brings another dimension to the song.
The generation that facilitated the huge success of Myths of the Near Future has matured over the past 3 years making it imperative that Klaxons show the same development within their music. In this respect echoes is a well-constructed release, which suggests significant potential for their upcoming album Surfing the Void.
(Echoes is released on 16th August, Surfing the Void will follow the week after)
