Soundcarriers – Celeste

| On 09, Aug 2010

Having never heard any Soundcarriers prior to this album, I was a bit cynical about what I was about to hear; was it going to being another generic band who sound just like everybody else? The answer I can happily say is no.

Soundcarriers are fresh breath of sound on what seems to have become a rather overpopulated music scene, where everyone follows the trend and are to scared to take risks and be, well themselves. It’s a pleasant surprise to find that there are still bands out there who are not afraid to be unique and offer something different to the music world.

My initial reaction to the opening track ; Last broadcast, was that it sent me into a sort of wonderful trance transporting me to a world made of simple riffs and rhythms pulling me in and allowing me to lose myself in the music, ending something old and beginning something new and exciting. I found myself swaying from side to side bopping my head along to the music, I loved it. The next track; Step Outside was much calmer and softened the trance as I eased into the music, and was confronted with summery imagery of realisation and reflection. This was evident throughout the rest of the album too. Also I found the bass riff in Step Outside, reminded me of a ticking clock, which made me think although time is daunting it can still be much enjoyed, which is a rather nice thought to think about.

Throughout the album I found myself floating through the sounds, and my felt my troubles of the days and weeks passed simply flying away. The vocal harmonies are simply beautiful and are teamed perfectly with soft electronic yet natural sound creating a beautiful harmony of notes and sound which begin to surround you creating a surreal atmosphere of an almost mystical world filled with unimaginable beauty.

By Long Highway, I was fully converted to the Soundcarriers, they are brilliant and like nothing I’ve heard before. The use of rhythmic and musical devices created a symphony of free sound, with a definite influence of world music, heavily influence by the the 1960s and 1990s but still maintaining a new era twist, perfectly reflecting the feeling of the summer season. This album is a must have for any music lover who is prepared to look beyond the conventional and like me is getting pretty bored of hearing the same sound under a different name.
