Los Lobos – Tin Can Trust

Tin Can Trust was definitely a record that grew on me. On first listen I wasn’t hugely impressed – this is not to say I didn’t like it, only at first it didn’t hit me how interesting an album it is. Needless to say my opinions changed upon further listening. Los Lobos have created a record that spans a number of different genres, seemingly effortlessly.
The opening track, Burn It Down, genuinely sounds like something Johnny Cash could’ve produced – it’s like a time capsule to another time. Just when you think you’ve got this record worked out though, you’re thrown into Yo Canto; an entirely different sound altogether. Country rock is exchanged for Spanish-language salsa. Once again genres are switched up on the next track, Jupiter Or The Moon – a slow burner in the jazz/blues tradition. This is the essence of Tin Can Trust – constant change. The rest of the album doesn’t disappoint; you’d be hard pressed to get bored of this record any time soon. Tin Can Trust doesn’t just touch on various different genres – it masters them.
