Delta Maid’s latest E.P, Broken Branches, is an interesting little record. Opening with the titular track, the record clearly establishes itself as bridging the gap between folk and genuine country music. Delta Maid’s vocals are both twangy and smooth, and always unique. It is lucky then that the album relies on vocals rather than instrumental music to carry it along, as much of the latter often falls short of being anything particularly amazing. This isn’t really a big problem for Delta Maid though – she’s talented enough a singer to sustain this E.P with her voice alone. Overall this record is a success – it’ll appeal to fans of both country and folk, whilst never sacrificing accessibility to newcomers or less seasoned listeners of the genres.
