Black Mountain – Old Fangs

Black Mountain’s Old Fangs, put simply, is a great track. The beat seems to be wrestling with itself – at times heavy and controlled, breaking out into an explosion of sound now and then, before once again reverting to its previous unsettling, seemingly steady melody. For other artists, this could come across as awkward and badly thought-out – not the case for Black Mountain. This track achieves just the right balance between the two. The track’s dual vocalists create very different sounds, though somehow both manage to evoke the same feelings and images – to me, the latter was of deserted highways and Quentin Tarantino movies. Though that may sound bizarre, it is somewhat fitting – the track boasts an undercurrent of tension, excitement and even potential fear. At once psychedelic and gritty, this song is definitely a must-listen.
