An interesting night at the legendary Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club tonight as some of the most exciting new folk acts take the stage, together with the resident band.
We personally came down to check Charlene Soraia out and verify whether the hype is based on true talent or not.
Charlene Soraia is a fairly new addition to the new folk trend that is gaining more and more adepts in the UK in the recent years. Despite being quite young, her vocal skills are quite developed and her persona on stage is definitely one to watch, capable of entertaining and engaging with the crowd without being intrusive.
Filled with ballads and soft rock music, with winks to jazz, Charlene played tracks from her EPs, such as This House, Meadow Child, Oh Well Orwell and the forthcoming single When We Were Five, all really well perceived by the audience. Her ethereal voice filled the room and enchanted the audience, and it was a pity that the spell didn’t last for long, as she played a short set.
I have to agree, there is a good reason why the hype is there, as definitely Charlene has one of the most amazing voices out there and her music is refreshing and dreamy, with great finishes and winks at jazz, making her stand out from the whole folk scene. One to watch.
