London, 5th July
Tonight I am at the Borderline for to see Dawn Kinnard from Pennsylvania USA, its another hot sunny day in London and the air con of the venue is a welcome relief. The venue slowly fills and there is anticipation in the air as we await Dawn and her band to make way to the stage. Tonight Dawn is accompanied by full brass section, bass/double bass and a drummer who all bring another dimension to her live show.
Similar to other artists such as Carys Matthews, Laura Marling and Bright Eyes she also has a traditional american bluesy feel. Dawn plays a mixture of tracks from here previous two albums ‘The Courtesy Fall’ and ‘Devil’s Flame’ and treats us to a few tracks from her up and coming album ‘Wrong Side Of The Dream’.
Dawn has an excellent stage presents and has the crowd hanging on her every word, her in-between banter is very good, telling us stories about songs including one about how her dog and her ended up in jail, but my favorite was when she was couldn’t read her set list because she had written it on the tube earlier, and because she doesn’t like people to read her writting, she wrote it really small and now couldn’t understand what she had written!
A very enjoyable and entertaining evening Dawn is an extraordinary talent and is not to be missed!
